Acupuncture is the insertion of very fine needles into specific parts of the body. The choice of points determines the effect. The acupuncture points chosen may not be directly into the area of your pain. Acupuncture is painless for most clients, when the needle is inserted there might be a slight pin-prick, although this should not persist. As the treatment continues a deeper sensation called 'deqi' develops. Deqi is not unpleasant and relates to the stimulation of the tissues. The use of sterile, disposable stainless-steel needles and high standard of patient care at Essex Physiotherapy Clinic ensure the highest hygiene standards are always met. If you dislike the idea of needles, then acupressure may be more suitable for you to enjoy the benefits of this treatment.
Sometimes, following the treatment people experience relaxation, tiredness or drowsiness. Occasionally people can feel slightly light-headed, faint or sick. These are temporary sensations, although if you do feel unwell, be sure to stay at the clinic until you have recovered.
It is recommended to avoid driving immediately after your treatment, it can take a while for the acupuncture stimulation to come into effect. We may recommend several sessions for best results.
