Percussion Therapy in Chelmsford

Percussion therapy is a type of massage therapy. After intense training or unfamiliar activities, muscles can feel tight and tender to touch or stretch. They may also feel tight as a result of injury. Percussion therapy is machine assisted and involves using a massage gun or plate to rapidly vibrate muscle tissue. The intention is to increase blood flow for faster recovery from exercise induced muscle soreness, pain relief, and improved range of motion.

Does percussion therapy work?

Research is ongoing, but so far it seems like percussion therapy could help boost range of motion and prevent delayed-onset muscle soreness (DOMS).

The head of the massage gun is designed to be held gently against your skin and moved up and down the length of a muscle for 30 seconds to 2 minutes.

It is used after a full assessment and using the physiotherapists extensive knowledge of anatomy and physiology. Percussion therapy is used as part of an ongoing therapy plan may be used in conjunction with other therapies.

There are some contraindications similar to other massage therapies, so it is important that your therapist takes a full medical history, including any medications you may take.
